HBM Racing April Recap
After beginning the month of April with a solid 9th place finish in the All Star Shootout, the HBM team looked to carry their momentum on to Arizona Differential Night. The team also had the opportunity to host a STEAM activity for the Coolidge Public Library and made an appearance on Native Talk Radio. Here’s how it went.
Coolidge Public Library STEAM Event
On April 15th, we had the pleasure of hosting a STEAM in Motorsports session for the Coolidge Public Library’s Titans group. The kids heard from our team on the importance of STEAM and how we use it from start to finish in our sport. After the presentation, we took the kids outside to get a close look at our machine! They had a great time exploring the HBM car and learning about the tools we use to compete.
Native Talk Radio Appearance
On April 18th, Native Health Phoenix aired our story on it’s Native American cultural affairs radio program. In the interview, our team described it’s journey into the world of motorsports and the positive impact we are making in our community. Arizona Differential Night 4/30/2022
Marcos started his heat race in the 5th position in the 8 lap heat race and needed a top 3 finish to advance to the A-main. In the first lap of the race, he quickly jumped up to the number 3 position and later moved on to the 2nd spot where he would finish right behind Clay Erickson. The car performed well in the heat race which left us feeling positive about the main event to come.

The night’s main event was a rough one for many drivers on the track that night. We began the night in the 7 position for the 20 lap main which was plagued with cautions. Several drivers suffered damage from wrecks early in the race, many of which Marcos was able to evade and work his way up to 6th place. Unfortunately we couldn’t avoid all of the bumps and bruises from the night. With around 5 laps left in the race, the car suffered catastrophic damage to the front suspension and had to leave the track. The front shock on our vehicle came off during the race and cut down our front right tire. We ended the night with a DNF and 16th place.
Our team has been hard at work getting our car back together for the upcoming Ernie Mincy Tribute Race at CAS on 5/21. This is the last race at Central before the summer break begins. The team hopes to rebound and finish the first half of the season on a high note. Come on out and show your support!
