HBM Racing Earns a Pair of Top 10 Finishes
The HBM team has been hard at work over the last month. Highlights include a new body and a pair top 10 finishes in back to back races at Central Arizona Speedway. Read on to hear how we made it happen.
Pinal County Fair Race 3/19/2022
36 sport mods and a packed crowd made it out to the Pinal County Fair race. Marcos drew the number 5 position in the first 8 car, 8 lap sport mod heat race of the night. The race got off to a rough start as he fell back to last place in the second lap. With 6 laps to work with to earn a top 3 finish and secure a transfer spot to the A-main, he battled back, quickly moving back into the 4 position.
After a caution was brought out following a spin on the track, Marcos took advantage of the opportunity and moved into the 3 position in the ensuing lap. HBM advanced to the A-main along with Chase Alves and Luke Silber who finished 1 & 2.
We began the night’s main event in the 9 position. It was a rough race that saw the caution light come on 7 times. Our team saw noticeable improvement in our slick setup as we were able to avoid much of the chaos and finish the night in the 8th position.
The New Look
After several races in the 2021 season, it was time for a new body on the HBM machine. Following the Pinal County Fair race at Central, we reached out to our friends at JDJ speed who delivered a fresh body just in time for the All Star Shootout.
With a fresh canvas now in the garage, our in house graphic designer got to work on the new look. Duncan put together a design that merges our brand with that of our sponsors GRICUA, Gila River Sand & Gravel, and Lone Butte Development LLC. When the vector files were complete, we sent them off to our friends at Prime Source Printing & Promotional who delivered an excellent end product in time for us to mount our fresh decals ahead of the All Star Shootout.
All Star Shootout 4/2/2022
We hit the track in our new digs and started the 3rd heat race in the 6 position. Once again, 36 cars made it out to the race which meant we had to work hard to earn a spot in the big show of the night. Marcos did battle with Tim Doyle, driver of the #19 car, throughout the race but was unable to complete a last lap pass, which sent us to the B-main.
Our team made some adjustments to the car’s suspension ahead of the 12 lap, 24 car B-main which proved to be successful. Marcos started the race in the 3 position and quickly advanced 2nd place where he would do battle with the 7x of Joey Jock for the lead. The adjusted setup worked great and allowed Marcos to complete a 7th lap pass for the lead which he would hold on to for the remainder of the race. The win earned our team a spot in the main event of the evening,
We had some work to do in the 20 lap, 24 car A-main as Marcos started the race in the 13th position. It was another rough main event for the sport mods which saw a roll over accident and left 11 cars with a DNF (Did not finish) for the night. Marcos was able to advance by 4 positions and brought home a 9th place finish on the night.
We’re proud of the improvements our team has made this season. Marcos currently sits in 2nd place in total season points behind Shelby Alves. Thank you to our friends and family who made it out to the races to show your support and to those who tuned in to our live stream and watched from home! A special thank you to our sponsors who help us make it out to each race: GRICUA, Gila River Sand & Gravel, and Lone Butte Development LLC. We couldn’t do it without you!
