Central Arizona Speedway Dash for Cash 03/05/2022
It was all hands on deck during the week ahead of the Dash for Cash race at Central AZ Speedway. The HBM team put in several hours of work fine tuning the suspension and performing maintenance on the engine of our machine. The hard work paid off as we saw improved handling and speed during most of the night, until temperature issues hit us on the last lap of the main event.
There is always a level of uncertainty when changes are made to the suspension, no matter how calculated they may be. So we approached the weekend as an opportunity to test and assess. When the car took its first laps in the heat race, our team was thrilled to see that our adjustments were right on the money.
Heat Race
With 34 sportmods in attendance, we really wanted to capture a top 3 finish in the 8 lap heat race to advance straight to the nights A main. Marcos started the night in the 5 position and quickly moved up to 4th where he would do battle with Austin Wiseman for the last transfer spot.
After a caution was brought out for a roll over on the 5th lap, Marcos restarted in the 4 position with 3 laps left to complete one last pass for a transfer. He proceeded to complete 2 more passes and nearly ended with a win after racing neck and neck to the finish line with Tyler Delong.
A Main
Much of the work we put in during the week was to improve our setup for the main event. We were happy to see improvement after spending much of the 20 lap A main in the top 10. The improved handling and speed carried on throughout the race until the engine began to overheat causing Marcos to lose speed and position.
After a caution came out on the last lap of the race, Marcos decided to call it night and prevent the engine from sustaining any damage from excessive heat. Overall, we were happy to see improved performance from our machine and will work to address the over heating issues that removed us from competition. We will be back in action at Central Arizona Speedway on 03/19/2022 at 7PM.
